Immigration
People applying to us from abroad must qualify for public
housing by meeting one of the following criteria:
Refugee status
- Exceptional leave to enter or remain in the UK which is not
subject to any condition requiring people to accommodate and
support themselves without recourse to public funds
- indefinite Leave to Remain provided that the person is
habitually resident in the Common Travel Area (UK, Channel Islands,
Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland) and their leave to remain was
not granted in the previous 5 years on the basis of sponsorship
given in relation to maintenance and accommodation.
- Nationals of countries which have signed the European Convention on Social and Medical
- Assistance or the European Social Charter - providing they are
habitually resident in the Common Travel Area and are lawfully
present in the UK.
Nationals of the EEA - workers or self employed for the purposes of EEC
Directives
- people who left Montserrat after 1/11/95 because of volcanic
activity
- people who have retired from employment in the UK
- nationals of accession states who are registered with the Home Office Registration Scheme and are working
